This month, we celebrate the second anniversary of our newest division, CRP Design. Since opening our studio in Seattle, WA in January 2012, we have seen significant growth in business, resulting in increased staffing, office space, service offerings and national recognition. It has also allowed us to expand beyond our core packaging services. Our team now offers a full range of design services, including branding, graphic design, marketing collateral, website design & development, photography, and copywriting.
Over the past two years, we have had the privilege of working alongside a wide range of clients, including national retailers, e-commerce companies, specialty food and beverage concepts, retail consultants, bio-tech companies, office buildings, and more. In 2013, we expanded the studio’s office space and staff to accommodate two new full-time designers. Each member of our design team has a strong creative background that they bring to the table, which is an essential part of our hiring strategy.
Most recently, merchandise design has been added to the list of services offered by CRP, with our first collection launching this Valentine’s Day at Sur La Table. We were also fortunate to win a Graphis Gold Award and GDUSA Award for CRP’s contributions to Sur La Table’s 2012 Holiday packaging and in-store marketing campaign. The branding and packaging design for Seattle-based company Simple & Crisp also won CRP a GDUSA Award and was featured on TheDieline.com.
Other notable CRP Design projects in the past two years include:

In the next year, we look forward to expanding our design business in the Retail and Entrepreneurial markets. Our studio works very well with our partners in Retail for two reasons: one, because we are able to collaborate with in-house design teams and execute brand-appropriate solutions, and two, because we understand retail timelines. As for companies in the Entrepreneurial industry, our passion lies in helping new and developing companies launch or reassess their brand strategy. We’ve had great successes in this market over the past two years, and we look forward to expanding our portfolio even further in 2014.
Behind the Scenes at CRP Design:
The studio is led by Creative Director Cole Johnston, who was previously a senior designer for Landor Associates in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his four-year tenure at Landor, he provided award-winning insight and creativity to a number of Procter & Gamble brands: Crest, Downy, Eukanuba, Iams, Old Spice, Oral-B, Pantene, and Vicks. Cole was also an integral part of establishing a new brand essence for Newell Rubbermaid’s Sharpie brand and contributing to work for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and Philadelphia Cream Cheese. In his spare time, Cole enjoys spending time with his fiancée Claire and his two dogs Bronco and Kona.
Design & Marketing Manager Kristen Johnston handles the studio’s client services, proposal writing, accounting, and project management. Prior to CRP, Kristen worked for Easterly & Co., a full-service branding and strategic communications firm. During her three years with the company, she served as the account manager for Boeing’s Space Shuttle Program. She loves to sail on Puget Sound and go on long runs with her black lab Bogey.
Art Director Valerie Moore represents the studio in CRP’s Houston office, and specializes in graphic design, print, and packaging production. Prior to CRP, Moore worked as a graphic designer for a number of award-winning advertising and design firms including Idea Advertising, Easterly & Co., Smith & Jones Advertising. She is the mother of two boys, Andrew and Jonathan, has a pet cat named Izzy and a clam named Clammy.
Designer Chas Appleby holds a BFA degree from Columbia College Chicago. Prior to CRP, he freelanced for several years as an illustrator. Outside of work, Chas is a self-proclaimed “avid eater” and enjoys ordering complicated cocktails.
Olivia Peterschmidt recently graduated from University of Washington with a bachelor of design degree. She is CRP Design’s newest hire, and her creative passions expand beyond graphics into jewelry design and ballet.
